Assemblies, Prayer and Liturgy
As a Catholic school, Prayer and Liturgy are important times during which we can share in celebrating God’s love and learning more about our Catholic faith through stories, songs, drama, games and prayer. We also explore the traditions of other religions in order for children to become more understanding of the beliefs of others. In addition to this we have our Celebration Assembly each Friday afternoon.
Gospel Assemblies
Every Tuesday and Thursday, we gather together in God’s presence with our school family to listen to the Sunday Gospel and to share God’s word. From this, we are set a mission for the week which we try our best to follow and fulfil, following in Jesus’ footsteps.
A member of the senior leadership team leads the assembly; children and staff take turns to read the Gospel and lead our school prayers.
Hymn Practice
“He who sings, prays twice”, St Augustine.
Singing is an important part of school life, and children are encouraged to sing at assemblies, whole school Masses and weekly Hymn Practice. On Monday afternoons, children gather together for Hymn Practice in the school hall. Hymn Practice is led by an external singing teacher, Mr Allerton. The children learn to sing the different parts of the Mass during Hymn Practice.
Monday Celebration Assembly
Weekly celebration assemblies are an opportunity for children and staff to celebrate children’s achievements. Children look forward to receiving special certificates and stickers celebrating academic achievement and in recognition of how they have behaved that week in class and at playtime and dinnertime. Each week we celebrate the children demonstrating a different school value- aspiration, self-belief, perseverance, independence, respect and enjoyment.
There are also trophies to be won for the best attendance and best behaviour at lunchtime. Children look forward to celebrating their birthday with the school.
Some assemblies take the form of a Class Showcase where children get the opportunity to share their learning with parents and carers.
