Mission Statement
Our Mission Statement -"Love Overcomes, Love Delights"
St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School aims to provide a caring environment for all pupils and staff, where all are recognised as children of God. Christ is at the heart of our school community, where gospel values are promoted so that each individual has the opportunity to grow in faith, use their gifts and reach their full potential, becoming responsible, happy and confident members of society.
Our mission statement is founded on a quote from our school saint, Saint Bernadette, "Love Overcomes, Love Delights". As a school, we want to follow in St Bernadette's example and through our faith, our love of God and by following in Jesus' footsteps, we want to make our school and our world a better place to be. Love can overcome many things. As a school, through our thoughts, words and actions we are working together to achieve our mission.
Reviewing the Mission Statement
We annually review our mission statement and children, staff and governors are involved in this process. Below is a mind map created when the staff team met together in Summer 2024.
The staff shared what makes them proud to be a member of the St Bernadette's community. Staff discussed core gospel values and the distinctive nature/ethos of the school and its link to St Bernadette. From this, a discussion took place with a focus group of children and we produced the final version of our mission statement. Our mission statement is proudly displayed in the hall and in the school entrance. Each classroom prayer area also has a smaller version of this as a reminder of our focus. The artwork in the mission statement was designed by two of our very talented Year 6 pupils who left the school in Summer 2024. Poppy and Naomi worked together to illustrate the mission.
Our mission statement is always at the heart of the school and each half-term the children spend some time reflecting on our shared mission. This reflection usually takes place during the weekly gospel assembly and is followed up in the classroom, through celebration of the word and also during our celebration assembly. The mission statement is the foundation of our way of life and this makes St Bernadette's a really special place to be. If you are a visitor to St Bernadette's, you will immediately see and feel this when you step inside of the school.
Each class has a mini mission, this is something that they are going to work towards. For example; taking care of the plants around school, collecting litter, using manners. The mini missions are age appropriate for each year group and are decided with the children.
Each year we have mission days where we focus on an aspect of our mission statement. In the autumn term 2024 we had a day of stewardship. Further information about this can be found here.
