Values and Ethos

Our Aims and Values:

St Bernadette’s is a Catholic school where the message of Christ inspires the curriculum and all aspects of school life. Religious education is in accordance with Roman Catholic doctrine and practice.

The School provides the kind of education which enables each pupil to become a dedicated member of the Catholic Church and a responsible citizen.

We aim to:

  • encourage and develop the spiritual and moral growth of the individual and to make our Catholic/Christian faith a meaningful experience
  • provide a stimulating and relevant curriculum which enables each individual to achieve their full potential
develop a committed, active relationship between all those who are involved with our school, by fostering home, parish and community links
  • encourage co-operation, support and motivation, which will provide all who are involved with this school every opportunity to succeed
create a happy, safe working environment, where each person is recognised as unique and where there is mutual respect and trust amongst all in the school

We aim to foster the growth of faith by providing a caring environment which values the contribution of each individual, promotes love and respect for God and each other and encourages a strong sense of community and care for God's world.

Every single child at our school is a unique individual who we will endeavour to understand, love and care for. All children are different and some will present us with more challenges than others but we take the time to unpick difficulties and give strategies to help.  Our aim is to produce children who have achieved greatly in the classroom but who are also resilient and happy individuals equipped to cope with life. We are a Catholic school and believe wholeheartedly in living out our mission of letting the light of Jesus shine through in all we think and say and do.

ASPIRE Values:

With children at the heart of everything we do, our mission is to build a nurturing and stimulating learning community, rooted in gospel values, in which every child and adult feels loved and has the opportunity to reach their full God-given potential.

Our curriculum is designed around the school’s values for learning:

  • Aspiration – “I strive to be the best I can be.”
  • Self-belief – “I have confidence and know I can achieve anything.”
  • Perseverance – “I keep trying when faced with challenges.”
  • Independence – “I can think for myself and take ownership of my learning and behaviour.”
  • Respect – “I show consideration for myself, other people and my environment.”
  • Enjoyment – “I get involved and have fun at school.”

Each week children's achievements and demonstration of the school values are recognised in our celebration assembly. If you are a visitor to school you will recognise the children who have achieved the ASPIRE award each week as they proudly wear an ASPIRE hoodie. Our school values and mission are at the centre of everything we do at St Bernadette's.
